Suhasha Hewagama

Suhasha's practice primarily focuses on statutory accident benefits claims (including catastrophic impairment claims and hearings before the Licence Appeal Tribunal), third party liability claims, commercial general liability claims, property damage claims, and subrogated matters.

Suhasha has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice, the Tax Court of Canada, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Licence Appeal Tribunal, the Landlord & Tenant Board, and the Social Security Tribunal.

Prior to joining Forget Smith, she worked as in-house legal counsel for one of Canada’s largest property and casualty insurance companies. Prior, she worked in a boutique firm in Toronto where she gained experience in the areas of criminal law, tax litigation, personal injury, and family law.

Suhasha received a Bachelor of Commerce (Specialized Honours in Accounting) degree from York University in 2011. During her time at York University, she was invited to become a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. She went on to obtain her LL.B. from the University of London, City Law School in 2014, where she was awarded the Old Bailey Law Prize. She was called to the Ontario bar in January 2016. 

Suhasha is a member of The Advocates’ Society and Canadian Defence Lawyers.
