Maryam is an Insurance Defense lawyer who represents national insurers. Prior to joining Forget Smith, Maryam articled at an insurance defense litigation boutique, where she acted for insurance companies on various claims in the areas of Tort law and Accident Benefits law.
She completed her undergraduate degree (with high distinction) in 2020 at the University of Toronto, where she double majored in Ethics, Society & Law and Criminology & Sociolegal Studies. The highlight of her undergraduate studies was her involvement with the Mock Trial Program. Maryam competed for a year and went on to grow the program when she was elected Program Director for two consecutive years. She obtained a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto in 2023. During law school, Maryam spent her first year volunteering for the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women & Children (METRAC) under Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC). This inspired her to engage more deeply with PBSC by pursuing a leadership role at PBSC as a Program Coordinator. She addressed specific barriers to justice across various areas of law by developing over 30 legal projects. Maryam also volunteered at the Artists’ Legal Clinic, assisting local Toronto creatives seeking summary legal advice.
She was then called to the Ontario Bar in 2024.
